Why Steve Jobs Parks in the Handicapped Spot at Apple

Filed under: Uncategorized — hansderycke @ 3:52 pm

From David Bunnell

Mike [Murray] told us some jealous people in the Apple II or Lisa divisions of the company were so pissed-off at Steve for the way he frequently belittled them they got their revenge by keying his car. Because the close-in parking spots were usually gone by the time Steve arrived in the morning, he simply parked in the handicapped zone. No one would dare key Steve’s car when it was right in front of the building.

World Affairs has an interesting article by Gordon Chang about what may be the end of Chinese economic expansion and the the rule of the Communist Party. It’s very thorough and an interesting read.

Zumbar Coffee

I was pointed to these guys as if they were just another joint to get a cup of coffee. To say that the americano I got was delicious would be an understatement. It was rich, creamy, and flavorful. Even now, more than six hours later, I’m trembling with anticipation of getting another cup.

Tomorrow morning, I’m going to swing by here and see if their morning drip is as delightful as was today’s afternoon cup.

Winterized my RV

Filed under: Uncategorized — hansderycke @ 6:00 pm

Winterized my RV two days ago. Turns out, it’s not that hard. But I want to record the steps for future reference. And while I’m at it, why not put it up on the old blog, so if you’re looking to winterize your RV, maybe these steps can be helpful.

You’ll need:

And the procedure looks like this:

  1. Go inside and turn off the water pump.
  2. Go outside and drain the freshwater tank by opening the drain valve. For my unit, that drain valve is in the compartment that has the wastewater drains. In the picture below, the drain valve is on the left. On the right are the low point drains, which we’ll use later.

Also, on the other side of my motorhome, there’s a secondary freshwater supply tube, used to suck liquid directly into the motorhome’s water supply. By opening the valve on that, the tank drains twice as fast. In the picture below, you can easily see the secondary supply tube hanging out. On the left side of the picture, there’s the two valves: the one on top comes from the tank, and the one on the bottom from the secondary supply. Sticking out the the right of the T-junction is the line to the interior plumbing. Make sure both valves are open to drain the tank faster than with the drain valve only.

  3. Now it’s back to the inside, and bypass the water heater. Turn the valve on the cold water supply line and the valve on the hot water line perpendicular to their respective lines. Turn the valve on the bypass line that connects the cold water to the hot water parallel to its line. Now no cold water gets into the water heater, and no hot water comes out. If you were to open the hot water faucets anywhere with the pump on, cold water would come out.
  4. Get back outside and drain the water heater. When it’s done, close the drain valve. You don’t want any critters getting in there while your unit’s in storage.
  5. Go outside and open the low point drains (again, in the wastewater drain compartment on my unit). Go inside and open all faucets and flush the toilet (just long enough to let the water out of the lines). Go outside, wait for the low point drains to stop flowing and close them. Blow out water supply by attaching blow-out plug to your city water connection and a bicycle pump to the plug and giving it a few pumps. Go inside and close all those faucets.
  6. Close the freshwater main supply valve. This shuts off the flow of water from the water tank to the motorhome’s plumbing. If water was coming out the secondary supply tube for draining the tank, this flow will now stop. That’s OK.
  7. Take one of your jugs of antifreeze, and insert the freshwater secondary supply tube into it. Make sure the valve on the secondary supply valve is open. That clears a path for the antifreeze to get sucked into your plumbing. Usually, I get my son to monitor the jugs of antifreeze and tell me when one is empty.
  8. Turn on water pump, and wait until it stops running. It’s filling up with antifreeze.
  9. One by one, open each faucet until antifreeze comes out for a few seconds, and close it. Waiting a few seconds ensures that antifreeze gets into the p-trap of your sink, protecting that also against freezing. Flush the toilet until antifreeze comes out.
  10. Turn off water pump.
  11. Close freshwater secondary supply valve, and put away the antifreeze.
  12. Is the freshwater tank still draining? Wait until it’s finished, and close the drain valve.
